Carrapateira / Bordeira One of the first stops as you drive north up the West Coast road is Carrapateira.  Turn left off the main road anywhere and all the roads lead to the most stunning views over rocky coves and unspoilt surfing beaches like Bordeira above. Other fine local beaches include Salema, Luz, Figuera, Zavial, Martinhal and Sagres.

Arrifana Get to Aljezur (less than half an hour) and take a left off the main road towards Arrifana and Monte Clerigo.  At the T-junction at the top you can turn right towards Monte Clerigo, a long strand of golden sand easily accessed by car, or turn left and a few minutes later this is the view. Sagres Less than twenty minutes from the house, at the South-western tip of Mainland Europe, this town is literally at "The End Of The World", or at least it was before a certain Portuguese sailor happened upon America one day. Other West Coast towns and resorts include Vale Figueiras, Vale da Telha, Aljezur, Rogil and Sines.
